    Don’t mean to be a smart arse and realise you have resolved it by now but given you just had a service did you check the diff oil? All the best Mark

    I feel your stress, we were in a similar situation returning from Cape York. Then our GU went into limp mode. Limped into Cairns and they seemed to sort it as a bad sensor. Then the car went into limp mode again about 100kms from Mackay. It was the start of a long weekend so was a nervous wait. Good to see you kept level headed and didn’t panic

    I feel what your going through, what annoys me about all of these car dealer service centres is that they will not reschedule a few scheduled oil changes to help stranded travellers, most people waiting for oil changes would likely, gladly reschedule to help a stranded traveller. The first dealer chain that does that, will be a game changer for travellers, I’d buy that product over everything else if that was the case.

    The river bed bogging, stressed the diff?

    Thought roadside ultimate package would cover you for a free tow as car should not be driven.
    Sure it is sorted by now ! Cheers 2024 pioneers

    Great episode considering the circumstances. Can’t believe how calm you both were in such a stressful situation. Looking forward to the next episodes and hope things go your way. We’ve got our fingers crossed

    Oh poop. Not what you want to have happen. But you know what, you're not going to perish out there. With communication setups these days, life is so much different from the way it used to be. It just costs money if ya need a tow.
    I must say, you looked pretty calm out there, which is important for your kids.
    Thanks guys. Love following you. 😊

    Well done guys, Yep, the old big screwdriver is the Fitters Stethoscope. At least you could whip the axles out and tailshaft and drive in Front wheel drive. Benefit of a 70 series floating axles.

    We really feel for you guys being in the situation that you are in. No doubt the kids must sense your fear of what could or might happen should it totally fail. Like you mentioned, Starlink is a huge saver when this happens. Hope it all works out well for everyone.

    Looks like the Jmacx track corrected diff. I have the same one in my 76. Have had 2 Toyota dealers so far have trouble with this when greasing wheel bearings. There is a handout from Jmacx that you can give to the dealer mechanics that shows the procedure for bearing service - locking the diff before axle removal as you mention. Interested to see what the fault turns out to be,

    Good tip about the traction control. We head out to Mt Augustus most years at XMAS time because it’s nice and hot and therefore quiet. However, you ID an issue that’s always on my mind when we go each year and that’s the fact that it’s bloody remote and on the road/tracks we travel there’s normally no one else around so breaking down would be a bit scary as I am not a mechanic either. We’ve not seen anyone most times once we’ve left the Mullewa-Carnarvon road so know the feeling and thoughts of “remoteness”.
    My ‘insurance’ like you is to get it serviced (over servicing really) just to ensure this sort of thing doesn’t happen. However, you did get it serviced so that takes away my confidence in relying on that “service” now LOL. Looking forward to the follow up vid now 😊 and hope it went well. Fingers crossed 🤞🏽😅

      Now that you've got Elon travelling with you, you'll be able to call in the cavalry no matter where you end up which should give you some comfort and being proactive with maintenance is definitely the key 👍

    Oh guys, sorry to hear about your troubles, this shouldn’t be happening with a new Toyota! Someone has let you down! I guess by the time we see this video and next weeks you are probably sorted, at least I hope so. Be interesting to hear what the issue was. You guys handled the situation very well, at least on camera as Liz said :) only hope it’s all gone well for the repair and you get to continue your adventures. Will find out next week. Stay safe out there and all the best for the week ahead. Cheers 🍻

    Sorry hear see your having trouble with your vehicle, it just goes to show that you should have some form of a communication device when you venture into the outback, wether its a Sat phone of Starlink, we hope it works out for you with minimal cost

    Pinion bearings have worn the hardening off them. Very common problem, easy to tell since the noise varies under speed and load.
    Fairly straight forward fix, just needs to be done right
    And it’s a common problem with jmacx setups

    Diff bearing on input shaft is most likely but could be output bearings on either side, is my best guess
    Good luck, best wishes and well done for not falling apart with the stress!

    I thought Toyotas were unbreakable that’s what Toyota owners say don’t they

    • @Mi-ck
      @Mi-ck 2 дня назад

      The diff isn’t a Toyota part. It’s an aftermarket setup that converts the cruisers leaf spring read end to coil.
      If I had to guess I’d say someone forgot to fill it with oil last service a few days before the failure.

    • @TheLifestylePioneers
      @TheLifestylePioneers  2 дня назад +1

      Yep, that's what they say. But that doesn't mean you buy one and you'll never have an issue. In this case it was a mistake made when it was serviced. Could happen to any make/model.

    • @TheLifestylePioneers
      @TheLifestylePioneers  2 дня назад

      @Mi-ck it's a Toyota diff, it's only the housing that's aftermarket.

    TIAV had a similar issue with their diff and had to get it replaced in Derbyshire from memory. It was also a McCormack diff.
